Reunion Island, France

From Reunion Island, Nathalie lives between the ocean and the mountains, fuelled by the energy of the Piton de la Fournaise, the island's active volcano. Self-taught artist, she caries the diverse ethnic and cultural legacy of the island with her. Nathalie started painting 20 years ago while going through depression. It is there and then that she discovered how powerful art could be in restoring one’s balance, well-being, self-esteem and confidence.

Nathalie finds her inspiration in the nature around her, but also through her self-discovery journeys, nurtured by the memories of her Indian, African, Asian and western origin. Her very colourful art, between abstract and figurative, reflects the island’s melting pot and combines various techniques such as acrylic, pouring, watercolour and markers, as well as items collected such as leaves, wood or feathers.

Behind these colours, these overlapping and transparent effects, Nathalie’s art conveys a message centered around diversity, harmony between people and the respect of nature.
